The Four Year Bishop Dress

The Four Year Bishop Dress

Four years ago my neice was three. Inspired by our southern home I decided it would be fun to learn to smock and to make her a little Bishop dress.  So I got right on it and took a class at a local quilt shop. I actually enjoyed the process, even though my hand cramped up a few times. Sometimes in the evenings it is nice to have a little project to work on here and there; I suppose that is why people take up knitting and such. After learning the basics I tackled the Bishop dress and finished up the smocking. It took countless hours and I know I began to doubt I would finish before my neice moved into the next size. A Crown for the Birthday Boy (Tutorial)

A Crown for the Birthday Boy (Tutorial)

Tomorrow is e’s 5th birthday! And in typical fashion, everything is fly-by-the-seat-of-our-pants and I decided to make him a birthday crown tonight. Since reading Amanda Soule’s book and seeing her cute crowns, I’ve always wanted to make one. Did I consult her book tonight? Nope. Just forged my own way. Ahh…well. The creativity bug is flowing through my veins. I think I got burnt out with all the bag making from our adoption fundraiser…um…2 years ago. *sigh* Now I am arming myself with books and ideas and gearing up. That is, if I can find the time! I found a few minutes to make this band that holds my “life management notebook” (hah) together. It makes me smile to see it- quite easy. Just some elastic and small vintage buttons. Happiness can be found quite easily sometimes! What are you doing creatively these days?

Ancient Greek Pottery-Our Way

Ancient Greek Pottery-Our Way

For the last couple weeks we have returned to the Ancient Greeks. I LOVE studying the ancients. I just got some books out of the libray (thank goodness for free books!) on Alexander the Great and I was tempted to sit down right then and there to read them. But he is coming up this week, so I resisted. Homeschooling has been more of a learning experience for me rather than the kids I think. I’m learning math right along with my first grader-  (actually not totally all true, but he is learning a TOTALLY different approach to mathematics that I never learned and in turn, it is helping my mental math skills!) I...

And this is what I found when I went outdoors today. I heard the chainsaw buzzing away and low and behold, found this awesome throne sitting in the boy’s self-declared “new fort”. Ahh, the days of youth!
