It is a Worm Poop Kinda Day

It is a Worm Poop Kinda Day

Here in our little neck of the woods worm poop has been a hot topic. And it needs to be if we’re gonna turn this red clay soil into something that will be a thriving place for our summer food. Our stomachs are depending on it afterall! We’ve got some beautiful places popping up here and there in our yard. I got this library book out and while we didn’t use any of the garden ideas in it, it sparked some creativity in j’s garden planning. If you have some space and some children you want to introduce to gardening, this book may be a nice addition to your library. What are those poky green stalks you ask? Oh, that is is our brocolli. Before the squirrells got ahold of it. Who knew. I guess we need to plant some oak trees while we are at...

Hugging Lion-Who Knew?

So this week e and little h are learning about the letter “L”. I picked up this book at the library (which I frequent quite heavily these days) named Christian, the Hugging Lion . I didn’t think much of it; in fact, judging the cover, I thought it would fall into the “silly book category”. This afternoon before quiet time we sat down to read it and c became absorbed quickly. He happens to love animals and gets quite attached to such things as spiders and lizards and worms and such. After the final page there was a note to say that the story was a true story. As soon as I closed the book, thinking what a sweet ending it had, c burst into tears. Big crocodile tears gushing down his face. He was quite sad that Ace and John gave up...

Give a Man a Chainsaw…

And this is what I found when I went outdoors today. I heard the chainsaw buzzing away and low and behold, found this awesome throne sitting in the boy’s self-declared “new fort”. Ahh, the days of youth!

Bugs!

c is our bug lover. He could spend hours collecting bugs (too many have met an untimely demise) and he seems to like learning about them just as much. Just recently he made this awesome little house for a caterpillar we found. It kind of reminds me of a fairy home! At least this caterpillar had an outdoor abode and hopefully had a beautiful end. Today we found this praying mantis in our house. We are very gentle and careful with these amazing bugs, they are hard to find. I wonder what enticed him to come in with us for a while? I know the kids enjoyed the break from school as we carefully moved him outside.

Thoughts on the Kiddos

We have wrapped up a year and a half since e and little h joined our family! They truely bring much to our little family, lots of joys and smiles. Little h has the biggest smile and tends to be a happy toddler. She is now speaking very well (for a toddler!) and tries to interact verbally as much as she can. We’ve been working on things like puzzles, which she loves and coloring. Little h seems to enjoy singing and music like her older brother, e. She is not as interested in outdoor activities unless it involves her sandbox! E has the most handsome smile and it lights up his whole face. His eyes brighten up so much when he is laughing and smiling. I think we still have some communication issues with things we tend to take for granted him knowing. When he came...

The Cat in the Hat

Storytime! A dear friend of ours – one of the best storytellers of all time, mind you – has a yearly time when she dresses up as the Cat in the Hat for children to adore. Well, today was the day, and c, e and little h went to see. They also had their faces painted while they were there. We have several cats running around the house this afternoon. Click on the thumbnails below to see the full shot.
